My Senior Writing
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts”
-Winston Churchill
My name is Brandy Mendez and I am a senior at Lindsay High School. I live in a small town where almost everyone knows each other. Growing up around here, you have to make smart decisions, if not it is very easy to have bad role models influence you. I grew up with a big loving supporting family. Being the youngest in my family, there is more pressure put on me to make good choices in high school, do good in my classes, and to figure out my future plans for my career. I come from a single parent household, so it taught me to be more independent and it has also taught me to appreciate my mom and my siblings a lot more. They have been a major support system in my life.
Growing up in the world we live in today, you have to be tough and wise. I am constantly setting goals and pushing myself to do better. I have learned to surround myself with a positive crowd, and this definitely helps me keep track with my goals and aspirations. I plan to go to college after high school and have a career in either the medical field or the law enforcement. Right now at this point I am involved in school, I have great friends, I have a part time job at Little Caesars, recently earned my driver's license, and will soon be graduating high school. Lindsay California isn’t the best town to live in. It is very easy to get pulled into the wrong crowd or decisions. I can honestly say I am proud of the person I have become, because even though my life seems great now doesn’t mean I haven’t had some downfalls in the past.
Although I have had many things to be proud of, not everything in my life has been perfect. There had been many rough times that I have dealt with. Starting high school was difficult, I was starting to get behind on my grades, I started to surround myself with the wrong people, I started making poor decisions and I seen myself going down the wrong path. It was until I learned my lessons the hard way and payed all the consequences that made me realize that wasn’t the kind of person I wanted to be. Having separated parents hasn’t been all that easy either. My childhood was a little rough having to move back and forth between households, and changing schools was definitely difficult for me to adjust to. I felt it affected my focus and work in school. As I’ve grown and matured, I now know what advice to give to others younger than me or who has experienced the same situations I have. I would advise other high school students and upcoming seniors to not be easily influenced by others who are making poor decisions. I would encourage them to to give it all you got and take high school seriously because your future career depends on it.
